Ahead of Remembrance Day, poll suggests most Canadians don’t know much about their history

This photograph was taken by a Vancouver Daily Province staff photographer on Oct. 1, 1940 as the British Columbia Regiment marched down Eighth Street in New Westminster, before embarking overseas to join the Second World War effort. The photograph subsequently became famous the world over.

As people gather to remember those who fought and died to protect this country in past wars, a new poll suggests many Canadians know little about their country’s history.
