12-year-old girl dies from critical wounds following Thailand shooting

A girl who was among eight people killed in a mass shooting at a school near Bangkok has died, authorities said on Wednesday. The incident occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, on the outskirts of the Thai capital.

Initial reports indicated that at least seven people had died and several others were injured after a gunman opened fire on Tuesday. By Wednesday, a ninth age-appropriate victim was reported, but one of the wounded later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to eight, with the most recent fatality confirmed in updates from local authorities.

The assailant’s motive remains unclear, and police have provided limited details about the shooter’s identity or background. Officials said investigations are ongoing and that they are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the sequence of events.

Nonthaburi Governor Narong Wun-ngaem condemned the attack and urged the public to remain calm while authorities pursue leads. School representatives expressed sorrow for the victims and pledged cooperation with investigators. The incident prompted a swift response from emergency services, who treated the wounded at the scene and transported others to medical facilities for urgent care.

Thailand has faced a series of violent incidents in recent years, but mass shootings at educational institutions remain relatively rare. The government has previously called for tighter security measures at schools and increased vigilance among staff and students.

Families of those affected described the tragedy as devastating. Local communities gathered at makeshift memorials near the school, placing flowers and messages of support for victims and their relatives. Authorities have urged residents to avoid speculation and await confirmed information from official briefings as they continue to investigate the shooting.
