Rescuers in Nepal pulled two workers alive from a hydropower tunnel on Friday, nine days after catastrophic floods swamped towns and swept away villages across the region. The operation, captured in photographs from the Nepal Army, shows one rescuer carrying a teammate with mud on the second man’s face, as others support the effort.
The rescue took place at the Trishuli-3A hydropower project in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, where authorities had been working to reach people trapped inside the tunnel. The two survivors’ extraction comes as authorities work to assess the extent of the flooding’s impact and locate additional individuals who may still be inside.
Images released by the Nepal Army illustrate the moment a worker is carried by a rescuer wearing a helmet and headlamp, underscoring the demanding conditions faced by teams deployed to the site. The operation is part of broader efforts to recover those believed to be trapped and to stabilize damaged infrastructure in the aftermath of the floods.
