A new high school has opened in northwestern British Columbia, serving three Gitxsan communities and letting students complete grades 8 through 12 closer to home. The institution is described as rooted in Gitxsan culture, language, and community, and represents a new educational hub for the region.
The opening marks a shift from previous arrangements where students faced lengthy or widespread commutes to attend secondary school. The school will accommodate an estimated 170 students and stands as a milestone for local leaders and families across the Gitxsan nations.
Officials highlighted the facility as a dedicated space that supports Gitxsan cultural and linguistic education alongside standard secondary coursework. The event underscored collaboration among community leaders across the three nations and the commitment to keeping students connected to their heritage while pursuing their studies.
No further specifics on construction timeline, funding details, or the exact location were provided in the available summary. The report emphasizes the immediate impact: students can now stay closer to home for high school, benefiting families and the broader Gitxsan communities.
