A Saskatchewan Roughrider who died in a weekend crash was reportedly driving on the wrong side of a divided highway at the time of the collision, RCMP said on Monday. The fatal crash occurred on a stretch of road in the province, officials confirmed, shortly after a memorial service for the team’s linebacker, Jayden Dalke, who died in the incident.

RCMP indicated that preliminary findings show the vehicle driven by the Roughrider was traveling on the incorrect side of the highway when it collided head-on with another vehicle. Traffic safety investigators continue to review factors surrounding the crash and other contributing circumstances. No charges have been announced as the investigation proceeds, and authorities cautioned that investigators’ work could take time.

Dalke, 27, was identified by family and team representatives as the deceased Roughrider. The football organization and supporters have been expressing condolences as tributes spread across social media and the team’s facilities. A large screen at Mosaic Stadium displayed a tribute to Dalke as players returned to practice in the wake of the tragedy.

Officials said emergency crews responded to the crash scene, and one other person involved sustained injuries. The extent of that person’s injuries and their condition were not immediately disclosed. Investigators are examining road conditions, visibility, and vehicle mechanical factors as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The RCMP statement emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages and that more information would be released as it becomes available. In the meantime, the Roughriders organization has arranged support services for players and staff coping with the loss.

Dalke joined the Roughriders as a linebacker and had been with the team for several seasons. He was known for his on-field presence and community involvement off the field. The Roughriders’ leadership said they are working to support teammates and processing a difficult period for the organization and its fan base.

Police appealed to anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage from the area to come forward to aid the investigation. Authorities reminded the public to avoid speculation and await official findings as the case progresses.
